Welcome 2011!

Hello 2011, and welcome! Of course I'm a little late on the first blog of the year but taken into account that the first and second were Saturday and Sunday, first blog of Monday after the holidays are over makes sense. So to begin, the 2010 recap:

2010 was the big year in changes for me. And still, I don't like change nor do I fair well. BUT I did survive the 2010 change and managed to enjoy it (at least I think so). To begin, spent last new year in Hong Kong, came back, started interior architecture school, Ryan moved away, went to Chicago - a lot, started hanging out with Christine more, went to Sonoma/SF, went to Hawaii with the Fam, started hanging out with AJ more, started hanging out with Derek more, went to Vegas a few times, kept up with sports, and managed to do well in most of my classes (with plenty of emotional breakdowns). I made some new friends! And I kept up with my blog fairly well and started doing yoga. All in all, pretty impressive year I think.

2011 was spent in LA this year and it was fairly nice and relaxing considering I've been sick the last week or so. I'm pretty nervous about this year because a lot of things need to get done and I'm still anticipating a lot of things happening the I'm not quite sure how to feel about. So to begin, this year I hope to continue with the blog and do a little better job at taking pictures again. Perhaps the project 365 with pictures will be better this year and I don't have to force too many last minute pictures...like I did last night for 1/2/11. Hah. I hope to be a little bit better at being emotionally balanced so I don't get so emotionally drained by the end of quarters. Which means working a bit harder at the beginning of quarters and playing a little less at the end of quarters. Spend a little more time reflecting and having me time. But being productive about it. I'll stop there. That's already a lot as is. But here's to a good year!

Fight On

Continuing with my sports weekend that week, I made Derek take me to the Notre Dame/USC game. We spent the day tailgating, which was super crazy and fun.
This is how we tailgate at SC: wine, mini cupcakes, SC cookies, and pom poms. JK, sorta. We did partially tailgate bc our friend works at the alumni house and they had a wine tasting and desserts available so we took full advantage of that. But don't worry, there was tons of burgers and beer (Tecate, the official tailgating beer of SC. Tecate- it means trojan in Spanish.)
Derek brought glow sticks he had from the black out that his residence suffered a few weeks back. They were fun.
Um, I have a secret fascination for Traveler, the horse. Unfortunately that night, he didn't make as many appearances as I had hoped. (He comes out every time they score a touchdown) But here he is lighting the 4th quarter torch.
The torch is lit! Let's go Trojans!
I'm still excited to be there, even though it's raining!

There are no pictures because I was devastated by the end of the game...

But the night before was Derek's birthday! We had a good night in Silverlake. Check out the cupcake I got him/ he made me get him.Straight up 4lbs of German Chocolate cake. And it was yummy. Happy Birthday Friend!

Lakers!

During Thanksgiving weekend, I didn't feel like leaving the dog with a sitter (I don't like doggy day caring her bc she doesn't like other dogs and I'd rather she just be comfortable in her own home) so instead of Vegas, I decided to take Ryan to a Laker's game. Since the Bulls were in town, I felt like it would be super appropriate.Yay Lakers! Our seats were pretty decent.
The guy who took our picture offered me his foam finger. It was a really good game, and the Lakers won!

LA Day (Part 2 of 2)

After lunch we went to Serfas (sorry no pictures) and then off to Santa Monica to celebrate Hello Kitty's 50th! She had one long year of celebration because this (sadly?) wasn't the first even I attended to celebrate.
It was in the Santa Monica airport hanger. It wasn't too big but there was a ferris wheel, mini golf, carnival games, and an art show.
Granted it was a weekday, there were quite a larger number of adults (serious HK enthusiasts) than there were children.
Man, I love Keroppi.
She's not just a big cat.
I was sad I didn't have hundreds of $ to spend on some of these paintings/prints. But they were truly amazing.

LA Day (Part 1 of 2)

So I've had a bunch of blog's set up, just waiting to be written and since it's the last day of 2010, I thought I better get on it if I want to attempt a 2010 "reflective" post. So enjoy the next few posts as I attempt to catch myself up with the end of 2010... which I cant believe is here. To begin, a while ago, my friend Jenn and I decided to take a quick day trip to LA. First stop for lunch at a vegan and macrobiotic (I don't know what that means, someone explained it to me but I sort of forgot) place in Little Tokyo, Shojin.
Neither of us are vegan, but I do have an interest in eating vegan. Too bad I can't give up a yummy steak. Shojin has great reviews on Yelp and you really don't have to be vegan to enjoy this place.
First up, miso soup and a side salad. Dressing was AMAZING. I could eat salad all day if it had this dressing on it.. And who doesn't enjoy a bowl of hot miso soup.
We ordered the lunch bentos which included the wasabi avocado rolls (which I thought were eh), tofu (yummy!), a sort of inari rice ball (I happen to really like inari, so yummy as well!), and an entree of choice. I went with the fried tempeh. As I'm convinced you can pretty much fry anything and it's fabulous, I so went with it and it didn't disappoint me. I'm still a little unsure what tempeh is but fried and then in a garlic scallion sauce and I'm happy.
Jenn went with the pumpkin croquette and it was super yummy also. The pumpkin croquette was sort of my first choice but she called it first and I'm not a believer in getting the same thing but she generously let me try some and being a pumpkin lover, I really enjoyed it.

Getting it all together

I officially finished my first year of interior architecture school as of last night! Last week I turned in my last design communication portfolio (thank god!) and almost aced my history final. Then I gave myself a few days off after sleepless nights of drafting and then finished up my autoCAD final. I can't believe the year is almost over... So in the next few days I'll be shopping for holiday decorations, getting those decorations up, gift shopping/wrapping, and most importantly, trying to catch up on blogs! Boyfriend comes to visit this weekend so hopefully I can get lots done by then, including cleaning my poor room. It's been a mess with all my projects.
